Only Handful Helps out with Litter Pick

Thirty bags of broken glass and other rubbish were collected by a handful of volunteers during a litter blitz in Buckhurst Hill.

Four teams targeted Buckhurst Hill and Roding Valley stations and surrounding areas on Saturday, but organisers were disappointed with the turnout.

Organiser and Buckhurst Hill parish councillor Eleonor Spencer said: "We were really disappointed but want to thank the ten people who did attend. There are only a small number of people who dump litter but the amount is worrying. There is broken glass near the playgrounds and bags of food which the foxes get to. People say 'we pay our taxes, so why should we pick it up?' But the problem is too overwhelming for the council to do it all.

Another litter pick session is planned for August.
